Standing Against ICE Raids
Presbyterian Partners in San Diego,
One of our pastors recently spoke out against the overreach of Federal authority in our community. Once again, I'm proud to be a Presbyterian where our presence is being made known as Christians who are living out the Gospel of justice, kindness, and love. This story was widely reported in our local media.
After ICE and HSI raided Buona Forchetta restaurant in South Park on May 30, Reverend Dr. Kerry Allison of Christ United Presbyterian Church in South Park joined local leaders urging communities to take action. “We courageously stand with those who have been mistreated — in compassion, standing together for rights and humanity for everyone. ICE out of California. ICE out of San Diego. Power to the people. Amen,” Allison said.
Pastor Allison was among a group of faith leaders, immigration attorneys and community activists gathered in downtown San Diego Wednesday, June 4, to denounce recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in a South Park neighborhood, calling them aggressive, violent and un-American.
The group held a press conference to condemn the use of flashbang grenades and heavily armed agents during recent raids at two local restaurants, where search warrants were served on undocumented workers allegedly using false names and documents. ICE agents arrested four individuals during the operation.
Blessings and Cheer,
Em, your faithful Executive Council Chair
