A few words from Pastor Jan

As a follower of Jesus, I love to proclaim the simple and powerful story that Jesus loves us. After 32 years as an ordained pastor I have seen the love of Jesus poured out in lower income areas, in the wealthiest communities in the United States, in areas of great poverty and need; and, in places where the name of Jesus is not yet known. I have experienced the people of God learning from others including their neighbor next door and their neighbors 9000 miles away. I have seen churches and Christian nonprofit organizations struggle, experience the pain of transition, failure, and, renewal. I continue to see Jesus in all of this and experience joy in knowing and following Him.

I am a person who finds the reality of God so consuming that I cannot contain the joy and hope I experience in the Lord. I am invested in my relationship with God and others. I get excited about helping people know the Bible, and put it into practical use in their daily lives by sharing the whole kingdom of God. In response to the personal transforming power of the Holy Spirit in my own life, I feel compelled by God to identify spiritual gifts, to invest, instruct, equip and release God’s people, to be used as instruments of the transforming power of Christ Jesus. I want the body of Christ to take risks, to grow and be stretched to fear complacency more than they fear change.  I also have a strong desire to get the body of Christ out from the church campus and into the lives of all of God’s people, espeically those who do not yet know Jesus by name.

As I stand in the gap and serve at CUPC I commit to pray daily for this church and its members as well as those who enter the campus; whether in worship, during school, for meetings, for help, and/or, for sanctuary. I will work to become familiar with, and a presence in the neighborhood. I will assist the CUPC committee working on a current Mission Study as well as to pray for God’s guidance and discernment for the Pastor Nominating Committee as they engage in finding the next called pastor for this church. While standing in the ‘gap’ and by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ I will endeavor to honor God by doing the work of his kingdom here at CUPC.
