Words from Howard Thurman

As we enter and move through Black History Month, we remember the work of Black mystic Howard Thurman. In one writing he spoke of Jesus' ministry as a "technique of survival for the oppressed." This is intriguing. It is definitely worthy of conversation.


As we celebrate, the question emerges, how many African American theologians are masked in the history of Christian thought? We sometimes speak of the miseducation of American seminarians. This omission is just one example.
