Writing “2017” still feels strange. The month of March at Christ United Presbyterian Church brings two significant calendar events. One is Lent, the annual time for focused self-reflection and enhancing our relationship with God. The second is the Annual Men’s Cook-off.
The Men’s Cook-off is a fun event. As we think about 1 Corinthians 6.19 and our bodies as a temple, we remember that what we put in that temple is very important. Saint John Chrysostom said, “Do not adorn the church and ignore your afflicted brother, for he is the most precious temple of all.” We are to pay attention to one another and ourselves, this includes the food we eat.
I rejoice in the men’s commitment to quality products, whatever diet they practice, and flavor. It all comes together well.
And Lent is a great time to talk about this. As we drill down on self-reflection before the Lord our God as we prepare for Easter (Resurrection Sunday), perhaps we should include food and diet in the conversation in 2017.
